The Magnolia Bowl L
This handmade bowl features a gentle, organic shape with a soft gloss finish that highlights its unique variations. Crafted from high-quality white stoneware, its cheery tones seamlessly blend into any modern home decor. Perfect for serving snacks, displaying fruits, or as a decorative piece on your shelf, this bowl combines both beauty and functionality. Each piece is one of a kind, making it a special addition to your collection or a thoughtful gift for someone special.
The magnolia bowl features a sgraffito carving of magnolia branches in a blue-green underglaze and a coral pink underside. The bowl is approximately 8" wide by 2" deep.
“Sgraffito” is an artistic technique in which a layer of color (usually slip or underglaze) is added on top of the clay while it is still leather-hard. Then the top layer is scratched or carved away to show the clay underneath and to reveal a pattern or design. Once the piece has dried, it is fired in a kiln. A glossy glaze is added and the piece is fired again to a higher temperature.
If you look closely, you can see where all the clay was carved away. Its a long process and can take up to 2 hours to just do the carving (not including the creation of the mug, the under-glazing and the glazing and the firing) Each piece is carved by hand without patterns - these are all my own freeform drawings. Each piece is completely unique and one of a kind. So, even if you see a few pieces with similar drawings, no two are the same.
It is a piece of art.
*All of my work is handmade using slabs, pinching or coiling methods so you may see how my hands manipulated the clay with their perfect imperfections. They can be put in the microwave or the dishwasher, but as with any handmade item, they will last much longer with handwashing and gentle care.
